TinyMediaManager 2.9.4: A Powerful Tool for Managing Your Media Library
TinyMediaManager is a free and open source software that helps you organize and manage your movies, TV shows and anime collections. It can scrape metadata and artwork from various online sources, such as The Movie Database (TMDB), The TVDB, Open Movie Database (OMDb) and more. It can also rename and sort your files according to your preferences, download subtitles, create NFO files for Kodi and other media centers, and export your library to various formats.
In this article, we will review some of the new features and improvements that were introduced in the latest version of TinyMediaManager, 2.9.4, which was released on August 25, 2017.
Kodi XML Scrapers for TV Shows
One of the highlights of this version is the addition of Kodi XML scrapers for TV shows. This feature is exclusive for donators who support the development of TinyMediaManager. Kodi XML scrapers allow you to scrape TV show information from any website that provides an XML interface, such as fanart.tv, tvrage.com, tv.com and more. You can customize the scraper settings and choose which fields to scrape, such as title, plot, rating, genre, actors, etc. You can also combine multiple scrapers to get the best results.
Animated Poster Scraping
Another new feature is the ability to scrape animated posters for your movies and TV shows. Animated posters are GIF images that show a short clip or a slideshow of scenes from the media. They can add some life and motion to your library and make it more attractive. TinyMediaManager can scrape animated posters from TMDB and fanart.tv, and save them on your file system. However, they may not be always visible inside TinyMediaManager, depending on your operating system and Java version.
OMDb API Scraper
TinyMediaManager also added a new scraper for movies and TV shows: OMDb API scraper. OMDb API is a private service that provides movie and TV show information from IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and more. You need to register on their website (http://www.omdbapi.com/) and get an API key to use this scraper. TinyMediaManager offers a limited access to OMDb API (10 calls per 15 seconds). This scraper can be useful if you want to get ratings and reviews from different sources.
More Icons for High Res Audio & Video Streams
If you have high-resolution audio and video files in your library, such as Atmos, TrueHD, DTS:X or 4k files, you may want to reload the mediainfo of all your movies and TV shows to get the correct icons in TinyMediaManager. This version added more icons for high res audio & video streams, such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, TrueHD 7.1, UltraHD Blu Ray and more. You can also see the video bit depth and resolution from mediainfo.
New Templates for Exporting
TinyMediaManager also fixed and improved some of the existing templates for exporting your library to HTML or CSV formats. It also added two new templates: DeadSix27 HTML generator by DeadSix27 and Mobile Movie Search by Jennifer Gigliotti. You can find these templates in the export settings dialog.
